Melamine with MDF Core - Two Sides - 1/4" / 6mm
Description
What is melamine? Melamine is a low density laminate resin that provides a durable, hard and color stable finish to MDF core panels. Also known as thermally fused laminate, melamine is manufactured in a one step process where top and bottom resin impregnated decorative layers are pressed and permanently thermofused to a core material. Large steel press plates are used during this process which creates a suede finish surface texture.
Our Melamine has a wood-based MDF core manufactured using 100% recycled and recovered wood materials.
Applications
Melamine MDF panels are a versatile and popular choices for makers and DIYers because of their durability, scratch resistance and ease of cleaning.
In the workshop, you can use Melamine MDF panels for jigs, shelving, cabinet backing and other furniture components.
For makers, melamine MDF laser cuts and engraves beautifully, making this material idea for signage, wall panels and displays.
Melamine MDF is stain resistant, allowing you to engrave and color fill without damaging or discoloring the surrounding areas.
Tips
We recommend using Melamine MDF in interior applications. For use in exterior applications, please be sure to seal the edges. The MDF core is made of wood fibers which will swell and distort the melamine face if exposed to moisture.
Use a carbide tip with a high tooth count, and/or masking tape when cutting to avoid chip out or chipping the melamine surface. We also recommend scoring the surface prior to making final cut.
Use carbide bits for drilling holes. Consider placing sacrificial material beneath your panel to help prevent blow out and chipping. Taping can also help.
Acrylic paint pens work for touch ups on chip out or blemishes.
