Delrin Acetal Copolymer Sheet

Description

This is black delrin. It is opaque and has a gloss finish.

What is delrin?

If you are frustrated by the brittleness of acrylic, try Delrin. It’s super tough stuff. Delrin is an engineered polymer made by DuPont. It is stiff, strong, and has relatively low friction. It has very good dimensional stability with varying temperature and humidity. The polymer is semi-crystalline, which means it doesn’t soften much until the melting point is reached (around 350F). Delrin is easily cut by sawing, milling, drilling, and other conventional machining operations.

Laser Cutting

Delrin can be laser cut as well. However, you should definitely verify that you can cut Delrin on your laser cutter. It’s finicky and prone to burning, and most shared maker labs do not allow it to be cut on the lab machines. Note this important disclaimer: the edges are generally fine for most purposes, however they are not as beautiful as with acrylic. Acrylic is the perfect laser cuttable material. Delrin not quite as perfect. So, you’ll get a bit of a melted radius on one side and the cut is not as perfectly glassy as with acrylic. If you need super precision, you should allow for some filing and sanding.
